Your data, explained
Watti privacy policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Short version
- We collect only what we need to run the Watti waitlist and Watti Studio.
- We never sell your data and we use no advertising cookies.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics start only after you accept. Anywhere, you can decline.
- Your animations stay yours. We repost them with your nickname only if you tick the box that says so.
- Want a copy of your data, or want it deleted? Email [email protected].
Who we are
Watti ("we", "us") runs watti.dev and studio.watti.dev and decides how the personal data collected on them is used. You can reach us at [email protected].
This policy covers these two websites. Watti devices are not on sale yet. Before any device goes on sale, we will publish a separate notice that explains how the device handles camera, microphone and other data.
What we collect and why
| What | Why we use it | Legal basis (EEA and UK) | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Waitlist: your email, the form you used, campaign labels from the link you followed, and the time and version of your signup | To confirm your signup and send you launch emails | Your consent | Until you leave the list, or until the waitlist closes |
| Optional survey answers: how you would use Watti, the features you want, the price you find fair | To understand what people want from Watti | Your consent | With your signup |
| News and invites, only if you tick that box: your email and your choice | To send Watti news, posts and event invites | Your consent | Until you unsubscribe |
| Studio account: the email address and basic profile details that Google or X share with us when you sign in | To sign you in, run Studio, and link Studio to your waitlist signup | Providing the service you asked for | While your account is open, and up to 30 days after you ask us to delete it |
| What you make in Studio: animations, recordings, your nickname, and the recording requests you send | To run Studio, show your work in Studio, fix bugs and improve Watti | Providing the service you asked for | While your account is open, or until you delete the item |
| Reposting, only if you tick that box: your animation and your nickname | To share your animation on Watti's social media accounts | Your consent | Until you withdraw consent (see below) |
| Studio rating questionnaire: your answers and your email | To learn what works in Studio and what does not | Our legitimate interest in improving Studio | While your account is open |
| Contact form: your name, email and message | To answer you. Never to add you to marketing | Our legitimate interest in replying to you | While we handle your request |
| Usage data: pages and videos viewed, clicks, device type, campaign labels, and your country as seen from your network | To measure visits and fix usability problems | Your consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Elsewhere, our legitimate interest | Up to 14 months |
We do not ask for your device location, and we never put your email address into page analytics or ordinary application logs.
Public animations and recordings
Saved, published animations are visible in the Studio community with your display name. Other users can watch, like and remix them. Full recordings attached to published animations can be watched through public animation links without signing in. Unpublishing disables playback through that public animation link. Your email and privacy choices are not shown publicly.
Deleting an animation does not automatically remove stored recordings or copies made by other users. Contact [email protected] to request deletion of your stored recordings. Security logs and recovery backups may be retained separately while needed for protection and recovery.
Reposting your animations
Watti may share animations made in Studio on its own social media accounts, such as Instagram, TikTok, X and LinkedIn, credited with your Studio nickname. We do this only if you tick the reposting box. You can change your choice at any time in Studio or by email.
If you withdraw consent, we stop new reposts and remove reposts from accounts we control. Copies that other people have already shared on those platforms are outside our control.
Cookies and similar storage
| Type | What it does | Needs your consent? |
|---|---|---|
| Preferences | Remembers your light or dark theme and your analytics choice, shared between watti.dev and Studio | No, these are needed for the site to work as you set it |
| Session | Keeps a short survey token for the thank you page, and short rate limits that block repeated submissions | No |
| Our own measurement | A random browser identifier and campaign labels kept on your device for up to 90 days. Unsent events wait up to 24 hours. They never sign you in and are not passed to third party analytics | No |
| Third party analytics | Web analytics, click heatmaps and session recordings | Yes in the EEA, UK and Switzerland |
Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland see a choice first, and analytics cookies start only after Accept. Elsewhere, or when we cannot tell your country, analytics start automatically. A Decline is respected everywhere, and you can change your choice at any time under Analytics preferences on either site. Before you choose, and after you decline, a limited mode sends basic signals without analytics cookies.
Session recordings mask form fields, feedback text and account details. They do not run on administration pages or on sign in and confirmation links, and they stop when you decline. Advertising storage, ad personalisation and advertising signals are switched off.
Roadmap votes
When you vote for an idea or use a roadmap action, we store the idea/action and a protected random browser identifier to count interest without counting repeated clicks. A first-party voting cookie lasts up to 90 days. Public counters show totals only. Hashed network rate limits help prevent abuse; we do not publish individual votes.
Who we share data with
We share personal data only with service providers that help us run Watti, and only for that purpose:
- hosting, database and security providers that run the websites and Studio
- Resend, which delivers our emails, and a transactional email provider for the contact form
- Google and X, when you choose them to sign in to Studio
- web analytics and session recording services
- social media platforms, only for reposts you agreed to
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for cross context behavioural advertising. We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or of Watti.
International transfers
Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on recognised safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data, or send it to you in a portable format
- correct it
- delete it, or remove you from the waitlist
- restrict how we use it, or stop using it where we rely on legitimate interest
- withdraw any consent you gave. This does not affect what we did before
Email [email protected]. We reply within 30 days and may ask you to confirm it is you. Every marketing email will include an unsubscribe option. You can also withdraw your news choice in Studio or email us. Account and recording notifications are service messages.
If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority. In Israel that is the Privacy Protection Authority. California residents have the rights to know, delete and correct their data, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do neither.
Children
Watti Studio and the waitlist are not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, email [email protected] and we will delete it.
Security
We use encrypted connections, sign in through Google or X instead of passwords, limit who on our side can see personal data, and keep only what this policy describes. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your data at risk, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change matters for how we use your data, we will tell you by email or in Studio before it takes effect.
